The dental pulp, often referred to as the “nerve”, is the vital core of the tooth, responsible for its sensitivity. When affected by trauma, cavities, or cracks, inflammation can occur, leading to a condition known as pulpitis. This inflammation is often associated with severe pain, sometimes described as toothache or dental abscess pain.
Without proper treatment, pulpitis can progress to pulp necrosis, followed by infection of the tooth root and possibly a periapical abscess. In most cases, a root canal treatment is required to prevent further complications.
